Eight checks on a single proxy
GEO
Country, region, city and timezone of the exit IP. Useful when it matters where exactly the target sees your connection coming from.
Latency
Three separate measurements: host to proxy, host to target, and proxy to target. That shows which leg of the connection the delay sits on.
URL
Checks whether a specific address opens through the proxy and shows the response code. You see whether the direction you need works, not only the proxy itself.
External IP
The address the target will see. That is the actual outgoing IP, rather than a guess based on the proxy settings.
HTTPS

Why knowing that the proxy works is not enough
Most free checkers stop at basic availability and a couple of obvious parameters. That is enough to drop the completely dead addresses and not enough to judge the quality of a connection.
What the MITM check answers
A proxy can answer, pass requests through and substitute the certificate at the same time. The connection works, the padlock is in place, and the traffic is readable on the way. The browser stays silent whenever the system itself trusts the substituted certificate.
The check answers one question: did the data arrive unchanged. It does not report what exactly was altered, and that is enough to keep such a proxy out of your working setup.
Where the time is lost: three measurements instead of one
A plain speed test gives a single number, and that number hides where the delay sits. The checker measures three round trips: from you to the proxy, from you to the target, and from the proxy to the target.
When the proxy answers quickly but the target opens slowly through it, the problem is not the proxy but the leg between the proxy and the target. For picking a proxy for a specific region, that is the number that decides.
